On My Works

‘Body is the most imaginative thing’Says Roland Barthes. As Maurice Merleau Ponty points out ‘Body is a being that thinks, lives, sees, hears and moves’ In my opinion the human body is the most universal and meaningful subject not only for its form possibilities but also for the deep meaning it carries. However, when studying this subject, I find it unnecessary to stick to the anatomic form to describe it academically. Drawing, which is the best way to study this subject, constructs my painting. In fact, it is the simplest manner of expressing and is also a primary branch of contemporary art, an autonomous area. Expression deriving from the contrasts is the basis of my works. Semi-completion seen in my paintings is in parallel with the principle of continuity, movement and alternation in nature. Lines moving easily in space, planing the surface and cutting it into pieces provide the dynamism, the freedom and the stress I want. Briefly; art to me is the period of existence which takes roots in culture and nature and which emerges naturally by chance and self criticism without concession to fashions, popular philosophies and the idea of profit.
